In 20 years of research networking we have created new environments and new possibilities with our users. What will we do tomorrow?
The GARR network was born in Bologna 20 years ago and since then has been on the side of Italian researchers in their daily work. The GARR Conference 2011 will show how the research networks and their users have changed the way science is done in the last twenty years creating the e-Science and will discuss the evolution of this paradigm for the next twenty.
Today, users from different disciplines and increasingly permeable amongst their access information produced large amounts of data and transforming it in new knowledge through the use of digital networks and infrastructure always more transparent and integrated.
Over the next twenty years, the continuous evolution of the scientific disciplines and collaboration on a global scale will implement the production of data to store, manage and transform into new knowledge. The 2011 Conference will therefore focus on the access mode, organization and conservation of such distributed data, which will be independent of its geographical location and the user. There will also be talks about policies and technologies to ensure the security and integrity of the data, without sacrificing easy access by authorized users.
