Italian Research mourns INAF President Nichi D'Amico

Pubblicato il 17 September 2020

A sad loss in the world of Italian research, professor Nichi D'Amico, president of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), passed away prematurely and suddenly. D'Amico, who was 67, has been president of INAF since 2015 and had been reconfirmed for another four-years mandate in 2019.

Full professor of astrophysics at the University of Cagliari, he had been the director of the INAF Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari and of the project for the construction of SRT (Sardinia Radio Telescope).

GARR joins the scientific community in mourning the loss of a figure who has made such a significant contribution to the progress of research, recalling the countless experiences of fruitful collaboration, including, last in order of time, the recent entrance of INAF among the members of Consortium GARR.
