GARR wins the Juniper Elevate Award

GARR was awarded in the Security Excellence category of the Juniper Elevate Awards, now in their fourth edition. Tomorrow the ceremony during which Juniper Networks, leader in the networking sector, will present the award to the 8 winning organisations.

GARR was selected from dozens of candidates around the world and it is the first time that an Italian organisation has won this award.

With its 4 million users, 17,500 km of optical fibre and more than 1000 connected sites, the GARR network has always been careful to maintain excellent services that meet the ever-changing needs of the research and education community. continuous challenge, automation is fundamental and thanks to the new technology adopted, the team managing the network is able to respond promptly to security incidents, drastically reducing the number (600 DDos blocked in 2020).

The new technology is part of a broader evolution of the GARR network, which in 2020 alone saw traffic growth peaks of 60%, as a result of the massive use of streaming services during the pandemic crisis. To meet the need for an ever faster, more capable and secure network, GARR has decided to build GARR-T, a new nationwide network that is fully automated and with a total capacity of 40 Tbps. "We are very proud of this award, which it goes to the whole team that has conceived and is building this new network ”said Massimo Carboni, Chief Technology Officer GARR. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, GARR has continued to support the research and education community. We are creating a real Terabit Network: GARR-T, automated and very attentive to security issues, will allow us to respond to the ever growing need for collaborative cloud services dedicated to our community".

The other organisations that have been awarded the Elevate Award 2021 in the different categories are: Northeast Georgia Health System, Sacred Wind Communications, Discovery, First Bank (United States), University of Reading (United Kingdom), T-Systems (Germany), Millicom (Luxembourg).
