GARR cloud for Hack the Science 2022
Milano & Online, March 18 - April 3, 2022.
Hack the Science is a hackathon about science, scientific computing, user experience, cloud computing, organized by the NEANIAS H2020 project.
There are five challenges to tackle: Space, volcanoes, stellar populations, planets or web services. The competition will be held from 18 March to 3 April 2022 at the University of Milano-Bicocca or online.
The hackaton is about the experimentation of innovative tools for science, taking inspiration from the European Open Science Cloud initiative, and in particular considering the effort and results reached in the context of the NEANIAS project.
Teams of participants will work on specific challenges in a period of about two weeks, at the end of which they will submit a project including some form of documentation (a presentation, a website, a report, a video: creativity is highly.
welcome!) and optionally attachments of various nature (code, mockups, again creativity is king!). Different juries will select the best project for each challenge and the team will be invited to hold a public presentation during the award cerimony!

On the opening day, on March 18, the challenges will be presented and described with dedicated webinars, and participants will have until April 3 to submit their works.
The competition includes several topics: machine learning, artificial intelligence, visual analytics, image processing, clustering, UX, usability, web design.
The hackathon is based on the LOKI infrastructure (Linux OpenStack Kubernetes Infrastructure), used by EOSC services and managed by GARR federated cloud platform. GARR is also a partner of the NEANIAS project, for which it builds, manages and monitors cloud service platforms that are part of the European open science cloud.
