GARR at the Internet Governance Forum Italy 2024

Pubblicato il 04 December 2024

On 5 and 6 December, IGF Italy returns with the theme "The Internet I Want. Let’s Build Our Digital Future Together" to discuss Internet governance policies and the evolution of the digital landscape.

Artificial intelligence, digital skills and the digital divide, disinformation, cybersecurity, and child protection online will be the main topics of discussion at the Internet Governance Forum Italy 2024. The event will take place at the AgID headquarters in Rome and will also be streamed online.

Among the event's key participants is GARR, represented by Gabriella Paolini, a member of the IGF Italy Committee, who will take part in the panel "Developing a European Strategy for Multistakeholder Internet Governance" scheduled for 6 December at 4:30 PM. The roundtable discussion, moderated by legal expert Innocenzo Genna (Department for Digital Transformation), will also feature Giacomo Mazzone (member of the Advisory Council of EDMO) and Maurizio Goretti, CEO of NAMEX.

The panel will focus on global Internet challenges, including fragmentation, cybersecurity, and net neutrality. The discussion will explore strategies to ensure a European multistakeholder governance approach that involves all key players to make the Internet fairer and safer for everyone. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of supporting open and interoperable standards and defending fundamental rights and net neutrality, which may be threatened by commercial interests and technical or political decisions that favour a few stakeholders.

IGF Italy is an annual event organised by the IGF Italy Committee to promote and facilitate dialogue and debate among stakeholders on the governance and evolution of the Internet and the digital domain. The discussions address not only technical aspects but also economic and social dimensions.

The event will feature participation from Alessio Butti, Undersecretary to the Prime Minister's Office with responsibility for Technological Innovation, and Roberto Viola, Director-General of DG-Connect (European Commission). Additionally, live from Geneva, Carol Roach, Chair of the MAG, Chengetai Masango, Coordinator of the IGF Secretariat, and Anja Gengo, Coordinator of NRIs (National, Regional, and Youth Initiatives), will provide an overview of IGF's main challenges and ongoing programmes.

IGF Italy 2024 will take place on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December. The session on 5 December will be held at AgID’s headquarters in Rome from 1:00 PM to 6:30 PM and streamed online. The session on 6 December will be held entirely online via videoconference.
