Massimo Carboni awarded for the “Iorestoacasa” initiative
Massimo Carboni, coordinator of the GARR Infrastructure Department, received the "Campione" award for technology, for the initiative to make GARR videoconferencing systems available to all citizens starting from March 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 emergency.
GARR services are normally reserved for the Research and Education community but this initiative has allowed everyone, and especially schools, to use them freely and stay connected in a highly critical moment.
The Campione award, in its twentieth edition, is a recognition conferred by the City Angels voluntary association to those who have distinguished themselves by putting themselves at the service of the community and becoming a positive example for public opinion and is sponsored by the Municipality of Milan, by Metropolitan City and the Lombardy Region, with the National Association of Magistrates, the Revenue Agency, the Order of Lawyers, the Jewish Community of Milan, the Rotary Club and the Lions Club.
The award ceremony of what is also known like the “Oscar of Kindness”, was held on 30 June at the Humanitarian Society, in the presence of the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, Archbishop Mario Delpini and the Regional Councilor for Social Services Alessandra Locatelli. The winners, selected by a jury made up of directors and journalists from twenty-one media outlets including radio TV, national press and online newspapers, come from different realities (in addition to technology, relief, solidarity, altruism, civism, supporting the elderly, courage, culture, fight against degradation, fight against pandemic, sport figured in the list) but all share the fact that they committed to help those who needed it most during the most difficult months of the pandemic.
The GARR management expressed great satisfaction for the recognition of Massimo's commitment as well as of the colleagues who collaborated with him to make the initiative possible, in line with the most fundamental values of GARR and its community.
