INAF: 25 years of excellence in scientific research
The National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) today celebrates its 25th anniversary since its founding in 1999, with the publication of Decree No. 296 in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic.
In this quarter-century, INAF has established itself as one of the leading research institutions internationally in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, and planetary science, making a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge about the universe and the dissemination of scientific culture. For 25 years, the institute has been developing innovative technologies for space observation, both from the ground and through space missions, while also preserving the historical heritage of Italian astronomy.
Since 2020, INAF has been a member of the GARR Network, alongside CNR, ENEA, CRUI Foundation, INFN, INGV, Italy's state universities, IRCCS, and IZS. Its participation further enriches the network through its commitment to technological innovation and the improvement of services for the academic and research community.
To celebrate this milestone, the Capodimonte Astronomical Observatory in Naples is hosting an event titled Inaf+25 on 23rd and 24th January. This is a special opportunity to reflect on the achievements made and to chart new paths towards the future.
On this occasion, a book has also been created to recount the major events involving the Institute in the exploration and understanding of the cosmos.
